I've only done Choong Sil Kwan Tae Kwon Do, officially anyways, I've looked up all kinds of other martial arts.(I'm 15 and kinda poor so I can't really pay for actual classes). But, from what I've seen all around, it's never a particular style or fighter, it's always a combination of the two, like someone else already said on here. That, and only practicing a single style is bad too, verse yourself in many arts, and you'll have a better chance of winning because you have more weapons to use.

I've competed in many tournaments sometimes ground fighting is the only way to win

You can't call Krav Maga martial arts. Martial arts are the art of fighting. Krav Maga is the science of surviving. There's no philosophy other than survive and make sure your opponent does not. It was developed for use in him-or-me situations. It is ungraceful and ugly, yet completely efficient. There's no art to it, but it'll win in almost all cases that are not heavily controlled, like arenas, because traditional martial arts does not train in realistic situations.

i guess another thing to think about in fighting and effectivness is that most of the top mma fighters are guys who are either well versed in jiu jitsu, thai fighting or both...wanderlei silva trains muay thai and jui jitsu as does anderson silva, frank mir(the ufc champ) is a jiu jitsu champion and the one he beat for the belt is also a jiu jitsu guy! in fight science the tv show a thai fighter out struck all other martial artists and he was smaller than many of them.

well i dont know what martial art you are doing but i would say that's because you dont train as much acrobatics. i did capoeira for 3 years and capoeira is mainly acrobatic cool looking stuff with the exception that it works

amen! i've never won a sparring match with jump flying side kicks or spinning reverse hooks. it all came down to speed and accuracy. although take down drills do get somewhat fancy due to the fun incorporated with them, they're still just basic.

I understand your point that it all comes down to the practitioner in the end and i know that nothing is set in stone, but the most practical arts seem to be the ones thats the most effective, for striking muay thai is the most effective because one uses more weapons than in other arts and for ground jiu jitsu or judo is most practical because of the joint manipulations, there are many good things to be gotten out of other arts though, but ive never won a fight doing anything fancey! just basics

haha no i certainly dont have any more authority than you do but my main concern is people saying a specific martial art doesent works against another.

me neither, i just wanted to state an example because a striker dont neccesarily got an advantage in a fight, if the grappler just can get the fight down to the ground he would probably make short work of the striker. i only said i do good as a striker because i wanted to state that heavy guys doing striker martial arts isnt a better combination than a small guy doing striker martial arts. just look at gung fu for example.

im not arguing how well you do or dont do in karate, you may do very well, i started in shotokan karate in 94 and i kickboxed at the same time, i fought pro as a kickboxer and then went into boxing in the late 90's ive been doing jiu jitsu for years now and also fight some in mma, my last fight was about 4 weeks ago, there is alot of good things to be gotten out of karate as in any art. but it isnt practical for some situations, on ones feet its very practical but on feet only.

well there are more fights than just those on youtube, i am myself a karate pracitioner and been so for 12 years wich makes me a striker and i have lost to jiu jutsu practitioners who did nasty armbars, leglocks and such, sure those i met had years more practice but it really comes down to the fighter and he's/her skill not the fighting style they practice. i think you also should know im weighing 176 lb and do quite fucking well for myself as a striker.

and i have done no other sport than fighting and martial arts since the early 90's ...94 actually so theres not much you can argue me about on the subject, though i am sure youd be more of an authority than me on leaving comments on youtube.

it also comes down to to art itself and specifics, just watch on youtube "karate vs jiu jitsu" or kung fu vs jiu jitsu, look and watch how many jiu jitsu guys lose fights to strikers. and then get back to me, and also watch the first few ufc's when it was style vs style, a 175lb royce gracie beat a 220lb ken shamrock and a 220lb pro kickboxer patric smith. cmon now, a 175lb royce gracie, it comes down to the art of jiu jitsu because he dont have the physicality of the others.
